The final four clash at Flushing Meadows

Daniil Medvedev stuns World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz

In a sensational turn of events, No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev upset reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz with a stoic three-set-to-one victory on Friday. Despite being the less popular choice for the crowd in New York, Medvedev upset the current top seed 7-6(7) 6-1 3-6 6-3, setting himself up to square off against Novak Djokovic, with the experienced Serbian eyeing his 24th Grand Slam victory. The Spaniard’s exceptional footwork and explosive baseline game was testament to his reign as Open Champion, but after losing three break points in the third game, could not meet Djokovic in a second Grand Slam final this year. The title is now in sight for Medvedev, whose game is characterized by rather offensive strategy. But facing off against one of the most experienced names in tennis history makes this that much more challenging for the Russian.

Grand Slam number 24 calling for Novak Djokovic? Novak Djokovic - a legend associated with achievement and regalia in the tennis world - put victory’s sweet call for upcoming Floridian Ben Shelton on hold, to enter a rematch of the 2021 final at Flushing Meadows against Daniil Medvedev. Shelton’s appearance in his first major semi-final was the result of a spectacular match against No. 10 seed Frances Tiafoe and is a sizable feat considering the Open is only his fifth major. The American put up a rigid challenge against Djokovic in the first set, but could not sink his claws into the Serb, who broke serve early on in each set and emerged victorious in a straight set victory [6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4)]. The veteran faces off against hitherto fresh-faced Russian Daniil Medvedev on Monday.
